Avionik – Das Alter
Here’s yet another new track from the past week – this one featuring the haunting vocals of 8dio’s Forgotten Voices ‘Francesca’, a quirky rhythm bed and some piercing sythesizer overtones. Lots of fun doing this one and my music lately has been leaning in a more ethereal direction for some reason.
Anyway, in other news – going to shoot zombies today so some interesting photos should result. A gruesome gallery awaits! Das Alter by Avionik
“Very original. This really grows on your doesn’t it?” – folderol
“Excellent composition and overall mix.” – layzer
Avionik – On-Line In-Laws
Another brand new track from a forthcoming album. This one’s a bit of a dance stormer in places but also uses the haunting vocal sounds of 8dio’s Francesca. Also, lots of experminentation with some new compression and saturation controls offered in (my sequencer) Cakewalk’s Sonar X1c Expanded. Thanks for listening! On-Line In-Laws by Avionik
“I enjoyed listening to this (twice) – it’s quite hypnotic. I liked the odd vocal samples, the crunchy snare, and the way the pitch always changes a beat into the bar – keeps your ears on their toes, IYSWIM!” – kryptonaut
“I also enjoyed this. Nice rhythm. That synth arp at the beginning reminded me of The Killing Fields a little. some nice melodies flitting in and out here and there. Good work.” – seismic1
“Nice intro! Your bassline is kewl (electro); make me think a bit of the 80s… Nice kick, that sound great! I like the drop at 2:22; nice add of other instruments at this place… Maybe your breakdown is too long, with comparison to the others parts(proportionnally). great job overally. Keep it up!” – mutateur
“I don’t usually listent to this kind of music, but I can recognize when something is well done.” – freakingidol
“Good tracking, would fit in a soundtrack real well! “ – WayneG
New Photos, New Songs
Well it’s about time I uploaded a new photo set to my Flickr account, isn’t it? I spent a couple of hours on the shores of Lake Ontario at the end of Cobbledick Road in Newcastle. In the spirit of Halloween, you’ll find gruesome photos of dead salmon, alien plants and blue neon rivers. Check it out!
I also spent some time this weekend putting the final touches on a couple of surround tracks. I’m being more diligent about recording in surround sound and getting used to how surround mixes translate from the studio to a home theatre environment. So the latest mixes have been mastered. Now I just have to give them a good critical listen.
On my iPhone: OMD – The History of Modern, Morrissey – You Are the Quarry, Little Computer People – The Remixes, Jean Michel Jarre – Revolutions, The Boomtown Rats – Mondo Bongo, Rx – Bedside Toxology, KMFDM – Blitz, The Lightning Seeds – Cloudcuckooland, Mi-Sex – Grafitti Crimes, Recoil – Liquid, Royksopp – Melody A.M. … and lots, lots more!
NEW CD RELEASE: Avionik – Sum of Parts
I am happy to announce the release of my 8th CD! Sum of Parts was written over the last year and a half, and follows the February, 2009 Avionik release – Disarticulated. Much, it seems, has changed over this time, not the least of which was a move to a new -smaller – town and a rebuilding of my music studio.
With 14 tracks, this new album clocks in at just under 67 minutes. It also marks somewhat of a return to vocals for me with three vocal tracks and one of vocoded robotic “words”. Still present are my built-from-the-ground-up rhythm tracks – as always, heavily laden with all manner of junk yard percussion and synthetic stingers, and influenced by my blood-sourced native need to drum. And although the rhythms drive along at a dance-friendly clip (for the most part), you will also find periods of drama and intrigue provided by layer upon layer of human earth-hum. And then there’s the glue – the syncopated arpeggios of virtual analog synthesizers and other-worldly acoustics of modern synth algorithms.
